It’s shockingly easy to drop big money on a laptop. Windows and Apple machines can come with some hefty price tags, so if you’re looking to grab something that won’t break the bank, consider a Chromebook. These budget machines run Google’s lightweight and flexible ChromeOS, which is super-resistant to viruses and malware and power-efficient. Manufacturers are putting out Chromebooks at a bunch of different price points and power levels. Couple that with heavy discounts and you’ve got laptops that you can buy without breaking a sweat. Here are the best Chromebook deals we’ve found for June.
Chromebooks, for the most part, aren’t going to wow you with power or performance. That said, the Asus CM1402 is a perfectly decent portable computer that can handle the vast majority of productivity software, surf the Web, stream media and more. Powered by an efficient MediaTek Kompanio 520 processor with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard eMMC storage, we reviewed it and said that the CM1402 “fills a niche for cash-strapped home or classwork.” A 1080p screen is a nice surprise, as most Chromebooks settle for 720p.
The Acer Chromebook Spin 311 tries to give you the best aspects of a laptop and a tablet, with a 360 degree rotating hinge that lets you fold it flat while still using the touchscreen. When we reviewed it, we called it “a diminutive, spiffy Chromebook convertible,” saying that it’s an affordable unit that’s great for students. This configuration ships with an Intel Celeron N4020 processor, 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, and 32GB of eMMC internal storage. Battery life is also respectable, with 10 hours between charges.

This is slightly more expensive than your standard Chromebook, but components-wise it pulls out surprising power courtesy of 8GB of RAM, twice what these units normally ship with, as well as an Intel N200 processor with UHD graphics. The 15.6″ 720p screen is decently bright and refreshes quickly for mid-level gaming, and battery life is solid with HP Fast Charge technology getting you from 0 to 50% in just 45 minutes. At list price, this is not the best deal in the world, but slashing $170 makes it a lot more appealing.
Samsung is known for high-end hardware, and their approach to Chromebooks is a little different than other manufacturers. These are still affordable portables, but they harness the power of Chrome OS with better components. In this case, the Galaxy Chromebook 2 runs off of an Intel Core i3 processor that clocks up to 2.1 GHz, coupled with 8GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD. In our review, we praised its really nice QLED touch screen and stylish design, saying “the keyboard has a snappy and comfortable typing feel.”
