Instagram Experiments With Location-Mapping Feature Similar to Snap Maps

Instagram is reportedly testing a new feature that resembles Snap Maps. The feature allows users to post text and video updates to a map based on where they were taken, which can then be shared with friends. You’ll also be able to see all of your friends’ posts from a specific location together. If that sounds familiar, it’s very similar to Snap’s Maps feature. The main difference is the privacy settings. According to The Verge, Instagram users can choose to share their posts with “Close Friends or only followers they follow back,” while Snap allows users to share their posts with the larger Snap community.Currently, the feature is being tested in a few small markets and is opt-in.

This also isn’t the first we’ve seen of the feature. News that it was being developed surfaced back in February; however, at the time, the feature was rumored to be called “Friend Map.”
