New Ring Battery Doorbell Adds a Few New Tricks Without a Price Hike

Ring’s new Battery Doorbell, announced today, may not look much different from past iterations, but the $99.99 video doorbell does bring several new features to the entry-level device. The most notable addition is Head-to-Toe Video, which provides viewers with 150-degree views, tall and wide, to capture a person’s entire body. The improved viewing angle adds 66% more height compared with the Ring Video Doorbell 2nd Gen and should help give owners a more complete picture of who’s at their door. The new Battery Doorbell also offers 1080p HD-quality video and color night vision to help people see better in the dark.

There’s also a new Push-Pin design on the Battery Doorbell that should make it easier to mount and remove when the battery needs to be recharged. The company says Ring doorbells are designed to go months between charges with normal usage, but that figure heavily depends on how many people are stopping by. The new Battery Doorbell should get up to 23% longer battery life over the previous model, however. Thankfully, when it is time to charge, the new device includes a USB-C charging port instead of the previous Micro USB one.The new video Battery Doorbell is up for preorder now and begins shipping on Sept. 4.For comparison, the newest Ring Battery Doorbell Pro includes more premium features, like a bird’s-eye view and 3D motion detection, along with a higher 1,536p resolution. It also has a steeper $229.99 retail price. The new Battery Doorbell still gets Ring features like motion detection with adjustable motion zones, Live View, and Two-Way Talk, which lets you talk to another person through the doorbell.
