X’s courtroom drama in Brazil may be about to end. To get the ban lifted, the Elon Musk-owned social media platform has agreed to comply with the Supreme Court’s orders, The New York Times reports.Last month, Brazil’s Supreme Court banned X after it failed to appoint a legal representative for its presence in the country and block some accounts that were, according to Judge Alexandre de Moraes, a threat to Brazil’s democracy. In a court filing on Friday, X’s lawyers said that they would agree to the court’s demands and act as directed. Accounts listed by Judge Moraes would be blocked, and Rachel de Oliveira Villa Nova Conceicao would be appointed as their legal representative, the lawyers representing X told Reuters. However, X’s filing in court lacked proof of appointment. In a Saturday ruling, Judge Moraes gave X five days to provide commercial registries and other documents verifying the appointment and gave the court’s secretary 48 hours to check if the other orders had been duly followed. Once everything is in place, the court will review the actions taken by X and make a final decision about extending or lifting the ban. The turn of events is surprising given Musk and his company’s harsh criticism of the court’s orders and de Moraes in the past.

X suddenly became accessible to some users in Brazil last week after the company switched to Clooudflare’s servers. Although the company’s global government affairs team said that the move was unintentional, Brazilian authorities argued otherwise. Following this, Judge Moraes increased the daily fine for evading the ban to 5 million Brazilian reals, which is more than $900,000.
