Apple’s October Event Should Be All About the Mac … Mostly

The holiday shopping season is just over the horizon and that means Apple is expected to announce updates to its MacBook Pro line, with 4th generation Apple Silicon chips coming to its entry-level 14-inch MBP and the mid to higher-level 14 and 16-inch models receiving higher-end Apple Silicon upgrades.
The Fall Apple hardware event is scheduled for later in October and will also feature a new M4 iPad Mini and a redesigned M4 Mac Mini.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple has traditionally followed an annual release schedule for most of its products, including software and hardware such as computers, phones, headphones, and tablets.
However, Gurman believes that this strategy is becoming unsustainable and that Apple may move toward a more flexible update schedule, releasing new products when they are ready rather than adhering to a strict annual event schedule.
Gurman suggests that November 1st could be the last major annual fall release date before Apple adopts the new scheme. He anticipates a significant lineup of new M4 Macs in time for the holidays, with further updates expected in early 2025.

Gurman predicts that Apple will release a stock M4 14-inch MacBook Pro, along with mid-range 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros featuring M4 Max and M4 Pro chips.
Additionally, he suggests that Apple may announce a refreshed Mac Mini with stock and Pro configurations, a completely redesigned M4 Mac Mini, and possibly a 32-inch iMac with a larger retina display.
Looking ahead to the first half of 2025, Gurman expects Apple to focus on the MacBook Air, introducing 13-inch and 14-inch M4 models, as well as an 11 and 13-inch M4 iPad Air, along with Magic Keyboards to support them.

For the Mac Studio and the Mac Pro, Gurman anticipates releases later in 2025, possibly starting in the summer for the Mac Studio and the latter half of the year for the updated Mac Pro.
Furthermore, updates to the iPhone 17 and all operating systems are expected during this time, marking the beginning of the M5 configuration.
“That’s a lot of stuff,” Gurman adds. “New versions of the Mac Studio and Mac Pro with M4 chips are also in development, but they may take longer to arrive.”

Gurman did not provide detailed specifications yet, but as October progresses, more information is likely to become available, as well as whether Apple Intelligence will live up to the hype.
Notwithstanding, it’s advisable to withhold system updates until then.
