Your favorite mall brand has just expanded into elevated basics. In a press email this morning, Gap Inc. announced a new line called GapStudio, under which they will be releasing more elevated pieces. GapStudio’s first launch is officially out today.

The first iteration of GapStudio features four designs: a ribbed tank maxi dress, a denim midi dress, and a coated denim moto jacket available in a longer and cropped length. The collection ranges in price from $128 to $248.

Since creative director Zac Posen‘s arrival to Gap, the brand has made incredible shifts toward reviving its reputation as cool and chic, and Posen has done it to rave reviews. He’s part of a larger movement taking place, ushering in esteemed high fashion designers and creatives to head the creative direction at what we typically know as mall brands. Posen’s place at Gap, plus the appointment of Claire Waight Keller at Uniqlo and Olympia Gayot at J.Crew, all mark a shift toward a fashion culture in the United States that puts emphasis on quality, an attitude we typically see abroad.

Prior to the release of GapStudio, Posen has dressed celebrities like Anne Hathaway for a Bvlgari high jewelry event and Da’vine Joy Randolph at the 2024 Met Gala, both in Gap.
