If you have young people in your household, they’re probably aware it’s back-to-school season. While the concept of returning to the classroom can fill some kids with dread, it has an upside for the smart tech buyer. Many companies have launched line-wide sales events to capitalize on the rush of students seeking new laptops and other tech for the school year, and we’re picking out the top deals to be found. Let’s focus in on HP, well-known for printers, budget laptops, and more. So here are five hard-to-beat deals from HP’s back-to-school sale.

HP has a wide variety of laptops on the market, and the 17t occupies an interesting position. It’s a bit more expensive than what you’d normally consider a budget model but justifies that extra expenditure with a sizable 17-inch screen and some solid components. We reviewed a slightly different configuration and said that it “can handle daily school or home-office tasks that the average user may need to complete,” giving it an Editors’ Choice award. This configuration is on sale for half off and comes with an Intel Core i5-1334U CPU, 8GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD.

School is honestly one of the last times you’re going to need to use a printer on a regular basis, even if it’s just for making flyers to advertise your house parties. Take advantage of a steep 40% price cut on the HP Envy 6455e printer to get reliable color output with relatively low running costs. In our review of this printer, we said that it was “a sensible solution for families and home offices with relatively low print and copy needs,” noting its ease of use and 35-page auto document feeder. This offer includes three free months of HP’s Instant Ink service through HP+ as well.

Yes, buying a gaming desktop at a back-to-school sale may seem a little odd, but there are a lot of legitimate use for a powerful desktop with good graphics potential. We reviewed HP’s Omen 45L and praised its “top-notch quality, easy serviceability, room for six storage drives, and outstanding performance.” It comes in a wide variety of configurations, but the one currently on sale includes an Intel Core i7-i7-14700K processor that boosts up to 5.6GHz, a GeForce RTX 4060 Ti GPU, 16GB of Kingston Fury DDR5-5200 RAM and a 1TB SSD. At $470 off, that’s a real bargain.

Performance-wise, this isn’t a monitor that’s going to raise any eyebrows, but there are other factors making it a good buy. This EPEAT Gold-rated screen is constructed from 85% recycled plastic and is shipped in 100% recyclable packaging. The 23.8-inch screen delivers clear FHD imagery with 250 nits max brightness and a 3000:1 contrast ratio. The 75Hz refresh rate isn’t spectacular, but it does support AMD FreeSync. You can see how it stacks up on our list of the best budget monitors.

A sale is a sale, and if HP wants to include gaming hardware in its back-to-school offers we’re not going to argue. The Omen Transcend 16t is a capable portable with some nice specs. In our review, we praised its “sleek, professional-looking frame” and bright 16:10 mini-LED display. This configuration comes with an Intel Core i7-14700HX processor, GeForce RTX 4050 laptop GPU, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD. It’s a little bulky to be carrying from class to class, but if you want a decently powerful machine that can serve multiple needs, this is a nice discount.
