HP Chromebook 14

A solid little performer for under $200

$206.00
at Amazon
$289.99
Save $83.99

We reviewed an earlier model of HP’s 14-inch Chromebook and had nice things to say about it, praising its “spiffy keyboard” and light weight. This updated version is powered by an Intel Celeron N4120 with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC internal storage. The 14-inch 1,366-by-768 display has anti-glare coating and reasonable brightness, and with up to 14 hours of battery life coupled with HP’s quick-charge technology you can use it all day. HP’s Chromebooks are reliably affordable and functional, and this one is no different.

We reliably rate Lenovo hardware as some of the best-constructed in the portable space (second only to Apple), and even in the budget models, they still deliver the goods. The IdeaPad 3i Chromebook comes in at just two hundred bucks during Prime Big Deal Days, but it’s significantly sturdier than the average Chromebook at this price range, and the keyboard, in particular, is responsive and feels good to the fingers. This model comes with an Intel Celeron N4500 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 64GB of eMMC storage. Ports are also capable, with both USB 3.2 Gen 1 and USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 support.

Acer Chromebook Spin 714

Adding an Intel Core processor makes a Chromebook a big deal

$551.00
at Amazon
$749.99
Save $198.99

Most low-end Chromebooks don’t go too ambitious with their processors, but we’re starting to see some manufacturers get a little more powerful. We gave the Acer Chromebook Spin 714 an Editors’ Choice award in our review, at least in part because of the inclusion of an Intel Evo Intel Core i5-1235U CPU. We called it “the spearhead of the next phase of the Chromebook story,” lauding its versatile, durable 2-in-1 design, clear and responsive touch screen, and exceptional battery life. It’s a little more expensive than some of the other models on this list, but it definitely performs well beyond the price.

Asus Chromebook Flip CX1

A 360-degree hinge lets you use this portable in numerous ways

$269.99
at Amazon
$329.99
Save $60.00

ChromeOS is optimized around touch controls, so it’s not surprising that several manufacturers make Chromebooks with extra-flexible hinges to allow them to be used as tablets or tent displays. Asus’s Chromebook Flip CX1 is a budget-minded model that skimps a little bit on performance, but at this price, you can’t complain. This laptop runs off of an Intel Celeron N6000 4-Core processor paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB of eMMC internal storage. It’s not going to dazzle you with speed, but for a convertible that’ll keep you productive no matter how you use it, the Flip CX1 is a fair choice.

Samsung Chromebook 4+

Big screen, plenty of ports and a good-feeling keyboard

$206.00
at Amazon
$319.99
Save $113.99

With a larger screen than many other Chromebooks, Samsung’s Chromebook 4+ is a solid pick for media streaming and entertainment. In our review, we praised its full HD display and solid storage, along with decent power efficiency. This configuration ships with an Intel Celeron N3450 processor, 4GB of system memory, and 64GB of eMMC storage. While the screen isn’t the brightest out there, it looks good in most light and responds quickly. This isn’t the most powerful machine on the market, but if you want a bigger display, this is a solid choice.

Acer Chromebook Plus 515

The next generation of Chromebooks gets a massive discount

$431.00
at Amazon
$849.99
Save $418.99

We called this model “genuinely impressive” in our review, remarking on how well the Chromebook Plus 515 leverages Google’s new Chromebook Pro platform to run much more powerful software on machines that don’t skyrocket in price. This machine is a serious competitor to low-cost Windows portables, especially at this significant discount. This configuration ships with an Intel i3-1215U processor, 8GB of system RAM, and 128GB of UFS storage, significantly higher than you’ll find in Chromebooks at this price bracket. Great 49% Prime Big Deal Days discount.

Asus CM14 Chromebook

A super-budget portable that lays flat for easy sharing

$167.00
at Amazon
$279.99
Save $112.99

One of the best compromises between price and quality that we’ve seen, the Asus CM14 is a slim and slick-looking portable that folds open to 180 degrees, letting you display it flat on a table. In our review, we said that it “fills a niche for cash-strapped home or classwork” thanks to its laudable battery life and decent performance. The 14″ anti-glare HD display is fairly bright and responsive, with a high-definition webcam. This model runs off of a MediaTek Kompanio 520 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage.
