The brand NANLITE has introduced two new panel lights to the market. These are the Alien 150C and the Alien 300C, both first teased earlier in 2024.
Prototypes for both panel lights were first shown off at NAB 2024 and were notable for their compact size and lightness despite a range of advanced features for color mixing and power options.
One especially apparent benefit of these two panel light models is their versatility, making them useful for numerous use cases both indoors and outdoors. For the latter, they even offer an IP-55 weather resilience rating.
The two new NANLITE panel lights have power ratings of 150W for the Alien 150C and 300W for the Alien 300C. With these differing power ratings, there are also differences in weight and illumination area.
For the Alien 150C, the lighting area measures at 24.6×18cm or 9.7×7.1in and the panel light weighs 3.6kg or 7.94 lbs.
In the case of the Alien 300C, the illumination area is 36×24.8cm or 14.2×9.8in and the unit as a whole weighs 6.6kg or 14.55 lbs.
In both cases, what you get are products with a low enough weight to be easily carried in the field or maneuvered quickly in a studio while offering robust illumination.
Other major features of both panel lights include:
Full-color panel LED light
Light outputs of 13,050 lux and 28,630 lux @1m, 5600K for the 150C and 300C respectively
Dimming and brightening from 0.0% to 100.0%, by 0.1% increments
Wide CCT range of 2700K-12000K with ±150 green/magenta adjustments
Color rendition with CRI/TLCI average of 96 and 97, TM-30 Rf average 94, TM-30 Rg average 100
Versatile controls with both an on-board and a remote controller. Also a Nanlink App, DMX/RDM, LumenRadio CRMX
Versatile power choices: AC/DC/V-mount battery
Multiple lighting modes that include: CCT, HSI, RGBW, Gel, XY Coordinates, effect
15 built-in special effects with customizable parameters in each effect •
Five fan modes: Smart, Full Speed, Low Speed, Pause, Off
Easy firmware update support via USB port on the lamp head
IP55 rating for the lamp head, including a rain cover for the control unit
NANLITE’s two new Alien lights have been built with an optical design that alternates between warm white and RB LEDs.
These deliver a uniform light beam that’s also quite powerful. For example, if they’re set to 5600K, their output reaches 13,050 lux for the Alien 150C and 28,630 lux for the 300C.
NANLITE claims that this high output stays intact even when the lights are used with softboxes or diffusion filters.
Another useful quality of the lights is that their color mixing system and color temperature controls let them be used to imitate and complement natural lighting for assorted different times of the day.
The two panel lights deliver color temperatures ranging from 2,700K to 12,000K and also offer a green/magenta adjustment range of ±150.
As for their dimming modes, these can be set to shift in increments as tiny as 0.1% for users who want very precise dimming changes, or by changes of 1% for anyone who wants to make quick, larger adjustments in lighting.
Both lights offer 7 DMX dimming curves and 15 DMX modes. NANLITE has also included hardware and software adjustments that let the two lights deliver linear dimming at their lowest brightness levels.
The 5 fan modes of the two Alien lights also offer lots of precision. Between all five of them, users can carefully control lamp head heating or even turn a fan off completely as needed while keeping their lamp fully bright.
The versatility of the NANLITE Alien 150C and 300C lights is broad thanks to a combination of their weight, size, ergonomics and, crucially, their IP-55 rating for even using them safely outside during bad weather.
With both lights, users also have the option of adjusting basic controls through an included 2.4G remote control.
For deeper control of the panel lights’ settings, users can instead use either the Nanlink 2.0 app from NANLITE via their phones or work with an integrated control interface with a 3.2-inch touchscreen, four buttons and three knobs.
Wired control for the Alien 150C and 300C lights is available via 5-pin XLR DMX in and out ports that also let users have group control. Another control option for stable wireless DMX is also available through LumenRadio CRMX.
NANLITE has designed its two new panel lights to be powered via normal AC/DC, via 14.4-14.8V r through 26-28V batteries. Both lights also support hot swapping between power sources without total power interruption.
NANLIGHT is making each of its two new panel lights available with an include quick-release clamp, a pop-up softbox and a tough little carrying case. The price for the Alien 150C is $999 while the Alien 300C costs $1,499.
