Nikon announces another fast 50mm prime lens for mirrorless cameras, and this time its affordable

Nikon has officially launched the NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.4 lens for its mirrorless camera range. Yes, just like the f/1.2 version, it’s yet another fast 50mm prime lens. However, priced at just $496.95, this time, it’s a little bit more affordable.

The f/1.4 lens is aimed at both amateur and pro photographers and is tipped to give “top-tier” performance. The 50 mm focal length is a firm favourite and offers a natural perspective ideal for a wide variety of photography, including portraits, landscapes, and snapshots.

Main features

The standout feature of the NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.4 is its bright maximum aperture of f/1.4, which allows beautifully blurred backgrounds with smooth, distinct bokeh. This makes it easy to isolate subjects and create artistic depth of field. Additionally, the wide aperture excels in low-light environments, enabling photographers to maintain low ISO settings, ensuring optimal image quality even in challenging lighting conditions.

Fast autofocus

The NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.4 is powered by a silent STM (stepping motor), making it suitable for situations that require minimal noise, such as video recording. The motor also provides fast and precise autofocus, enhancing overall usability and versatility.

The lightweight design further ensures that it works seamlessly with Nikon Z-series mirrorless cameras, and the lens’s minimal shift in its centre of gravity makes it a great option for gimbal use.

Additional features include linear manual focusing and a close focusing distance of just 14.5 inches, allowing for detailed close-ups of subjects.
