After a June price hike, Max is trying to soften the blow by launching a new student tier.US college students can now get a 50% discount on the streaming service with a Max With Ads monthly plan, which reduces the price of Max’s ad-supported tier from $9.99 to $4.99 per month.Max is teaming up with UNiDays to verify a student’s status. Eligible students will then receive a unique code to redeem the offer on Max’s official website. The code is good for 12 months after sign-up, after which students must re-verify their status to continue streaming at a discounted price until graduation. The announcement comes just a month after Max hiked its ad-free plan to $17 a month for non-students, making it one of the most expensive streaming platforms. As of May 2024, Max ranks sixth among streaming services with the most paid subscribers. Forbes notes that Max, just like its competitors, might be offering a student discount right now “to boost their subscriber numbers and hopefully transition students into full-price paying customers after they graduate.”

It’s also late to the game. Hulu, Peacock, Prime Video, Paramount+, and Apple TV+ have long offered a student tier.
